Thelma Inez (Gabbard) Cooper, age 88, a resident of Moody, TX, passed away Sunday afternoon in a local hospital. Born in Health, Arkansas, she had been a resident of Moody for over 30 years and had lived in the Waco, TX area for 70 years. Mrs. Cooper had retired from Huck Manufacturing where she was a machine operator and she and her husband spent many years ranching in Moody, TX. She was a member of the Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church in Waco, TX.
Thelma loved to sing and play the guitar, She would sing and play for anyone, anytime, anywhere. When asking her daughter what people said about her mom, she said that most people who met her would agree - ''She was a pistol!''
She was the fifth of nine children and her passing leaves only her younger sister and brother. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Spicer in 2015.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Cooper of Moody, TX; her daughter, Sue Boss of Moody, TX; and her two sons; Jimmy Spicer of Palestine, TX, and Robert Spicer of Arlington, TX. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; her sister, Helen Rockwell of Abilene, KS; and her brother, Elmer Gabbard of Combs, AR and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Waco Memorial Park.
