Margarito “Lefty” Gonzales, a devoted Christian, Husband, Father, and Grandpa passed away in his home on August 7, 2021.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 12th, at Waco Memorial Funeral home with Pastor Vincent Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Cemetery.
Lefty was born in Meridian, Texas on June 10, 1946 to Eugene and Valentina Palacio Gonzales. He grew up in Valley Mills, Texas. Lefty served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He was married to the love of his life, Ofelia, for 43 years. They welcomed two beautiful daughters, Crystal and Sarah, who were his life. The family resided in McGregor, Texas where he and Ofelia lived until his death.
Lefty was the life of the party. He loved people and loved to serve them. He loved Jesus and a good margarita! Just one conversation with him and you knew that he was a man of God and the love he had for his family. He would gladly talk about his grandkids to anyone who would listen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Gonzales; his mother, Valentina Gonzales; Sisters, Augustina Felan, Delores Porres, and Louisa Camacho; Brothers, Fred Gonzales, Gonzalo Gonzales, and Larry Gonzales; Nephews, Victor Porres and Eugene Castro; Great Nephew, Justin Porres.
Lefty is survived by his wife, Ofelia Gonzales; daughter, son-in-law, grandson and granddaughter, Crystal, Cory, Nicholas, and Moriah Jane Ortega; Daughter and fiancé, Sarah Gonzales and Drew Haines; Sisters, Vera Baltazar, Genova Jimenez, Elidia Carrillo, and Janie Smith; Brothers Jose Gonzales and Eugene Gonzales, and several nieces and nephews. Lefty will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Serving as Lefty’s pallbearers are Nephews, Roy Baltazar Jr., Larry Walton, and Donnie Kramolis; Great Nephew, Erik Walton; Best Friends, Mike Beard and Chris Clarkson.
