Esther Virginia Barrett

April 11, 1933 ~ May 23, 2022 (age 89)

Esther Virginia Barrett, 89, of Waco, Texas went to join many of her loved ones on May 23, 2022. Visitation will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel at Waco Memorial Park Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel at Waco Memorial Park Friday, May 27, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.

Born April 11, 1933 in Meeks, Texas to Lewis A. Finney and Ida Lynch Finney, she was the youngest of eleven children.

Esther married the love of her life, Charlie M. Barrett, on December 23, 1949. They built a beautiful life together, raising their three children: Dennis L. Barrett, Theresa M. Barrett, and Cynthia S. Barrett; and watching as their legacy grew through grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charlie and Esther were blessed to spend seventy years together before Charlie’s death in January of 2020. After his death, Esther spent her remaining time enjoying watching her family continue to grow.

Charlie lovingly called Esther his gypsy. She certainly had a gypsy’s spirit. She loved traveling, crafting, decorating, big hair, a good margarita, a good time, and JEWLERY. Above all these things she loved her husband and her family.

She was a licensed cosmetologist who enjoyed making her clients beautiful and getting the good gossip in the process. She became a confidant for her clients and her clients became her life-long friends. Her second career was as a Home Interiors sales representative. She loved creating flower arrangements, choosing and hanging art, and decorating a room, either her own or anyone else who would let her. She truly loved her time helping people create a beautiful and inviting home.

Esther loved to travel and she traveled all over the United States and the border towns of Mexico, first with Charlie, then her sisters, and finally Cindy and her family.

Esther and Charlie loved spending time in New Orleans and Mexico with friends and family. In their later years, they traveled to Las Vegas, just the two of them to see Bette Midler.

From Hawaii to Florida, she loved to travel and explore. She especially loved cruising, and was even willing to give escargot a try (although only once). She had her passport ready when Covid hit. She had planned a Disney cruise with Cindy’s family that was thwarted by the pandemic and had to settle for a road trip across the south to Disney World. It was her last great trip, and it was one to remember.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Theresa M. Barrett (Terri), grandson Daniel Barrett, six sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by her son Dennis Barrett; daughter Cindy Curbo and husband Marty; grandchildren: Jenna Olson and husband Michael, Brad, Beth, Jacob, Charlie, Shelby, and Logan Barrett, Carlie Gause and husband Joseph, and Lewis Curbo; great-grandchildren: Aiden, Eleanor, Lydia, Holly, Sagelle, Haniya, and John Shelby Barrett, Merritt Olson, and Evan Gause; sister Recie Zipper, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Memorials may be made to the Challenger Little League of McLennan County, Texas
