Wilda Roselle McRay, a devoted mother, educator, and cherished member of her community, passed away on May 5, 2026, in Highlands, Texas. Born on August 16, 1935, in Bedford, Pennsylvania, Wilda’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to her family, faith, and country.
Raised on a dairy farm in Bedford, Wilda developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the simpler joys in life. Her journey led her to Waco, Texas, where she began working at the Owens-Illinois glass bottle manufacturing plant. It was in Waco that she met Bobby Joe McRay, whom she married on February 23, 1959. Shortly thereafter, Wilda was baptized on March 15, 1959, at the Herring Avenue Church of Christ, marking a significant step in her lifelong devotion to her faith.
Throughout her career as a teacher, Wilda demonstrated a special love for children, teaching Bible school with warmth and dedication. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond the classroom, as she treasured her role as a wife and mother. Known for her dependability and willingness to help others, Wilda was a pillar of strength and guidance to all who knew her.
Wilda’s personality reflected a blend of compassion, honesty, and wisdom. She was a faithful Christian actively involved in church groups and functions, always willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed cooking, long walks, exercise, reading, studying scripture, and traveling—especially cruises with her beloved sisters. As a good listener and trusted advisor, she imparted valuable life lessons to her children and grandchildren, always emphasizing truth, even when it was difficult.
Wilda is survived by her sons, Todd McRay and his wife Carrie, and Eric McRay; her grandchildren, Arick McRay and Brendan McRay; her brother Willis Diehl; and her sister Loretta Rausch. She was preceded in death by her brother Bub and sisters Charolette, Paulette, and Arvilla.
A graveside service will be held on June 27, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Waco Memorial Park. This gathering will provide a moment to honor and remember Wilda’s significant contributions to her family, church, and community.
