Victoria "Vickie" Marie Welstead

Victoria “ Vickie” Marie Welstead passed away August 8, 2026 at her residence in Ascension Providence Assisted Living. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday September 19th at 10:00am at Waco Memorial Funeral Home, 6623 Interstate 35 South, Waco Texas.

Vickie was born in Seward, NE, on July 28,1924, to August W. Westphal and Ruby (Millar) Westphal of Fremont, Nebraska. She attended school in Fremont, worked at S. S. Kresge, WWII Bomb Plant, F. W. Woolworth (where she met her future husband) and finally worked for the city utility department. She was engaged to William Welstead on Christmas Day of 1946 and married on June 15, 1947, the year following his discharge from the Army post-WWII. They celebrated their 73rd and final wedding anniversary in 2020. He was the light of her life and they enjoyed life together, moving across the country several times from Nebraska to Montana, Arizona, and finally, Texas.

She was preceded in death by Bill her husband of 73 years, parents, brothers A.W. Westphal and his wife Gretchen, Ron “Dean” Westphal and his wife Juliette, sister Joyce Westphal, sister Beverly Rice and her husband Don, and Son-In-Law Mark Bradley.

She is survived by one daughter Julie Bradley of Erie, CO; grandson David Bradley and wife Brandi, great-grandson Collin and great-granddaughter Victoria (Tori) of Choctaw, OK; granddaughter Arielle Barr and husband Jeff, great-grandson Aedan of Centennial, CO; son Gregg Welstead and wife, Jacquie of Pensacola Beach, FL; grandsons Brian Welstead of Orange Park, FL and 1stSgt Scott Welstead, USMC and wife Valerie, great-granddaughter Ripley of Sneeds Ferry, NC; and son Mark Welstead and wife Carol of Hewitt, TX, granddaughter Melissa Welstead of San Antonio, TX, grandson Matt Welstead and wife Emmalie, and great-grandsons John and Andrew of Woodway, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was so proud of her entire family and was always happy to talk about them and show pictures to anyone. Vickie was a volunteer at Providence Medical Center for more than forty years. She was active at Woodway First United Methodist Church and many other churches throughout their moves. She was a member of Kiwanis Seniors Club of Waco, along with her husband Bill.
