Tommy Leland Stanford

Tommy Leland Stanford, age 83, of Woodway, Texas, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Ridgecrest Nursing Home with his family by his side. Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2025 from 5pm to 7pm at Waco Memorial Funeral Home. A service to celebrate his life will be Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 1pm at the funeral home with interment to follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Tommy was born on November 16, 1942, in Waco, Texas to Charles Maurice Stanford and Pearl Marie Matthews. He graduated from Riesel High School in 1960. After completing his education, Tommy began his career as a truck driver, working for a variety of companies over the next 26 years. He later joined Cash America, where he worked for 16 years before retiring.

On November 16, 1984, in Woodway, Texas, Tommy married the love of his life, Shirley Colunga Mounce. They shared 42 wonderful years together, filled with travel, playing bingo, and visiting casinos. Tommy was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Baylor Bears, and he enjoyed watching westerns and NCIS. He loved indulging in fried chicken, Blue Bell ice cream, and sipping Big Red. Spending time with his grandchildren brought him great joy, and he rarely missed a soccer or softball game, no matter the distance.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Charles Maurice Stanford, his mother, Pearl Marie Hinze, his brothers, Robert Stanford and Charles Stanford, and sister Paula Stallard.

Tommy is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Stanford of Woodway, Texas; son, Tommy Stanford Jr. of Dallas, Texas; son, Rick Stanford of Temple, Texas; daughter, Lisa Mounce of Hewitt, Texas; daughter, Darla Hickey of McGregor, Texas; grandchildren, Trey, Landon, Logan, Kelsey and Joanna and great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will include Tommy Stanford Jr., Rick Stanford, Trey Stanford, Landon Stanford, Logan Hickey, Jeff Stanford, and Paul Stanford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Association.
