Hewitt

Roger Martinez, Jr.

Roger Martinez Jr. of Hewitt passed from his earthly journey on August 19, 2026. He was surrounded by loved ones as he peacefully entered his eternal resting place, no doubt welcomed by loved ones who have gone home before him. He was 53.

Born in Taylor, Tx., on July 6, 1973, Roger eventually moved to Waco and was a proud supporter of Waco High and Midway High School sports. He loved family and enjoyed coaching his sons, as well as many young athletes, in various sports during their childhood years. A fan of football, the Dallas Cowboys, and the University of Texas, Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whenever possible. He grew up attending church, where he shared his musical talents, and made lifelong friends. As a dad and grandpa, he could often be found grilling steaks complete with all the sides, and cooking up various meals to serve his extended family and friends. Everyone enjoyed his kitchen skills, and he made sure no one left hungry. Roger was a true comedian who could make an entire room laugh at a moment’s notice, and he always had inside jokes with his many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Despite his joking ways, Roger always showed support and love for others, especially his youngest family members.

Roger is survived by his wife, Lisa Martinez; sons: Matthew Lopez and wife Grace, and Max Martinez; daughter-in-law: Lacie Martinez; grandchildren: Jalen Lopez, Estella Rae Martinez and Camilla Mae Martinez; parents: Silvia and Sonny Rodriguez, and Roger Martinez Sr. He also is survived by siblings: Christina Jimenez and husband Martin; Julian Rodriguez and wife Aracely; Richard Rodriguez and wife Cristina; Steven Rodriguez and wife Kerry; Angela Martinez, Janice Martinez, Jaclyn Martinez Ware, and Nick Martinez. Roger also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces, loving friends, and many extended family members who will miss him.

Roger was preceded in death by his beloved son, Marc Martinez, the linebackers coach at Tarleton State University, with whom he shared a love and passion for family and football.

***Visitors are welcome to celebrate Roger by wearing a sports jersey or anything reflecting his favorite teams or love for football.
