Robert Edward Coomes

Robert E. Coomes (Bob) 83 of Waco TX passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024.

A Celebration of Life will be held July 20, 2024, 2:00 to 3:30 at Woodway First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 21000 Woodway Drive, Woodway, TX 76712. We welcome all family and friends to celebrate Bob’s wonderful life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in his name, please.

Bob was born December 10, 1940, in St. Paul, KS to parents, Lester Coomes and Marjorie Johnston Coomes. He was raised in Chanute Kansas, graduating from Chanute High School in 1959. He then served in the US Air Force for four years, flying, repairing, and building airplanes. His service sparked a desire to further his love for aviation. After leaving the service, he went on to pursue licenses in aviation maintenance (A&P, IA). He worked in aviation passionately for his entire life even after retiring from L3. He continued serving as a member of the EAA Chapter 59 in McGregor, TX, and his retirement project was successfully building a lake amphibian plane. Bob married Stella Thomas in February 2002. Bob never met a stranger he could not befriend and traveled the world with his wife wanting always to return to his favorite, Aruba. He loved a great margarita paired with a funny joke. He loved spending time with his family and taking silly pictures when no one was looking. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, stepfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Lester Coomes and Marjorie Busse, and stepfather A.J. (Bill) Busse, brother John Busse and sister Judi McAllister.

He leaves behind his wife, Stella Coomes, Stepdaughter Stephanie (Chad) Jackson, Stepson John (Tiffany) Thomas, Grandchildren Elliott Jackson, Liv, and Jack Thomas. Brothers Bill (Rosalea) Coomes, Chuck (Twila) Busse, sisters Kathy Snow and Susie (Slim) Moore, and sister-in-law Patty Busse, along with several nieces and nephews.
