Rebecca “Becky” Ricks Sheffield Cohen, 68 of Waco, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022, Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. Becky was called home to heaven after an exhausting health battle. Hoping to get on an organ donor list, she ran out of time. A memorial service will be held in January.
Becky was born Tuesday, May 25, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas. Out of nine siblings, she was the third born to Joan and Robert M. Comer, Sr. Four generations of her family lived together in a rambling, rollicking, home of love.
Independent, resourceful, beautiful, and spunky, Becky was known for her outgoing personality, lighting up a room with her smile and delightful energy. She treated everyone with equal love and attention. She was fearless in the kitchen and could make an everyday meal or something elegant and complicated.
She looked forward to her annual trips up North to visit with her grandkids and experience a true “winter” at Texas rarely offered. Quite often she was on the go, helping friends and family alike. She was an advocate that could battle royally if you needed someone in your corner.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Joan and Robert Comer, Sr.; brother, Ronald Comer; and sisters, Rosemary Gomez and Rene Palmer.
She is survived by her husband, Dean Cohen; brothers, Robert Comer and wife, Judy, Rick Comer and wife, Teresa, and Reggie Comer and wife, Donna; sisters, Rita Munsch and husband, Dwain and Roberta Guajardo and husband, Gino; and loving sons, Jonathan Ricks and wife, Christy and Stephen Ricks. She is an angel now for her beloved grandchildren, Kaleb, Joshua, Ryley, and Lola. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will miss her warm smile.
