Mack Baygent Payne, 81, of Woodway Texas passed away on November 15, 2024, at Mercy House-Living Springs Memory Care surrounded by his loving family.
Mack was born June 9, 1943, to Malcom and Pearl Payne in Pecos, Texas. Mack graduated from Pecos High (1961); Schreiner Institute (1963); Baylor University (1965); University of Texas Medical Branch (1969). While in Galveston, Mack met his future beloved wife of 54 years, Judy McDowell. They were married on September 5, 1970, in Galveston. Mack completed his first year of medical internship at Akron General Hospital, Akron, Ohio before joining the U.S. Army in November, 1970. He served as an Aviation Medical Officer (Flight Surgeon), in Vietnam and Ft. Lewis, Washington.
In 1973, Mack and Judy moved to Waco, Texas where he completed his Family Practice Residency in 1975. He was in private practice in Bellmead, TX but the majority of his practice was at Ft. Hood. From a young age Mack had a deep personal relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ and shared his faith through humbly serving and blessing others. He was a long-time member of Highland Baptist Church, serving in many volunteer roles. He was also a member of the Waco Senior Kiwanis Club participating with K-Kids at Provident Heights Elementary School. Most importantly he treasured his family and was a very devoted husband to Judy, devoted father to Andrea, Aaron and Andrew, and devoted grandfather to 10 wonderful grandchildren.
Mack was dearly loved by family and friends. He will always be remembered for his kind, gentle manner, his humorous one-liners, his love of music, and his steadfastness in every situation.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Malcom and Pearl Payne.
Mack is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter Andrea Dossey (Nathan); sons, Aaron Payne (Toni) and Andrew Payne, (Olivia); well-loved grandchildren – Gavin, Grant, Madison, Lindsay, Emery, Seth, Cayden, Owen, Silas and Elena; brother Malcom Payne Jr. (Jeanetta); niece Leslie Ricketts (Alan) and other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
