Lula Gilmore

November 2, 1934 — March 31, 2021

Lula (Lucy) Faye Horton Gilmore was Born on November 2nd, 1934 in Jones County, Texas and passed away on March 31, 2021 at 7:28 pm. She was the Daughter of Robert Perry Horton and Amanda Lee Parker. She was from a very large family and had 10 brothers and 6 sisters. In 1954 she graduated Blevins High School in Hope Arkansas. On January 31st, 1959 she married Henry J Gilmore, whom she never wanted to be apart from. She had two daughters: Amanda Dodson & Donna Gilmore, 6 grandchildren: Clovis, Gregg, Daisy, Randi, Henry, & Tommy, and had 18 great grandchildren. She grew up on a cotton farm in Hope, Arkansas. She lived in various places all throughout Texas and spent 32 years in the greater New Orleans Area before retiring in San Antonio and spending her final days, Mcalester, OK.
Lucy was small in stature but the shadow of love and influence she cast was large and far reaching. She was a wonderful hostess, loved children and serving others, was amazing with arts and crafts, loved sewing, and was a fantastic gardener. While in the Greater New Orleans area, she was a teacher at Memorial Baptist and was affectionately known as Mrs. Lucy to many families. She also served at various positions at the churches she attended. She enjoyed square dancing with the love of her life, Henry. We can imagine in Heaven, that he is inviting her to square dance and after the dance is done, She would thank him for the dance. Then he would tell her, “You’re just as welcome as the flowers in spring.”
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry Gilmore, by her parents, Robert Perry Horton and Amanda Lee Parker and by six sisters and 8 brothers.
