Dorothy L. (King) Benson of Hewitt passed away at 9:44 PM, Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Royal Manor Nursing Home at the age of 101. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation in the mausoleum chapel.
Dorothy was born April 28,1924, and grew up in Falls County, Texas. In 1941, she graduated from Rosebud High School. Following graduation, she moved to Austin, Texas, where she attended Seaton Nursing School. After a successful nursing school education, she returned to Waco and began her career in nursing at the Waco Veterans Administration Hospital, where she worked for ten years. It was there that she met the love of her life, Samuel Marshall Benson. On March 12, 1949, they were married in Waco, Texas. After having her son, in July of 1955 and saw him through to the sixth grade before she returned to work for the VA Hospital on June 19, 1967. Dorothy worked for eighteen more years before retiring on December 31, 1984. Following retirement Dorothy continued her work with the V.A. as a volunteer for 6 years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Benson on September 24, 2001, and her parents Vern and Pansy King June 28, 1972 and January 30, 1988 respectively.
Dorothy is survived by her son, James Benson and Kim Waller.
