Debra “Debbie” Diane Young, 74, of Waco, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

Debbie was born on March 27, 1952, in Waco to Ella Ruth Thornton and Jack Dwight Thornton. Her story was deeply connected to the Waco community: after graduating from Richfield High School in 1970, she devoted 28 years of her career to the McLennan County Clerk’s Office. Those years reflect the lasting roots she built in the place where her life began.

Debbie’s quick wit and kind, nurturing spirit brought warmth to the lives of those around her. She had a special way of showing how deeply she cared, and her loving presence made time spent together meaningful. She found simple joy in reading and watching movies, but nothing meant more to her than being present for the people she loved. Cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events was especially dear to her. She took great joy in supporting them, celebrating their accomplishments, and sharing in the moments that mattered to them. The love and encouragement she gave so freely will remain a treasured part of her memory and a lasting gift to her family.

Debbie was a devout Christian who read her Bible often and enjoyed participating in Bible study groups.

Debbie’s memory will be lovingly carried on by her daughter, Amy Kuligowski; her son, John Young; her grandchildren, Brynlee, Kaleb, Jenna, and Jacob; her great-grandchild, Parker; her brother, Jack Thornton; and her former husband, Richard Young. Each of them shared a special place in her life and will continue to hold close to the love and memories they made together. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Dwight Thornton and Ella Ruth Thornton.

For Debbie’s family, her absence will be felt in countless little moments, the laughter she brought to time spent together, the encouragement she gave so freely, and the loving way she made each person feel important. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, brother, and all who loved her will carry forward the memories they made with her and the lessons of kindness and devotion she shared throughout her life. Although saying goodbye is deeply difficult, the love Debbie gave will remain a source of comfort and strength. Her voice, her laughter, and the warmth of her presence will be remembered with love and held close in their hearts always.
