Bonnie Harkins

December 31, 1928 — January 6, 2018


Mrs. Bonnie Jean Harkins, 89 of 1831 Fostermill Drive, Prosper, TX, died Saturday Jan 6, 2018 at home surrounded by some of her loved ones after a short battle with cancer.
Family services will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Wayne Blackshear officiating. Viewing will be before or after the service followed by a graveside prayer. She will be buried with her loving husband James and wonderful son Mike.
Mrs. Harkins was born in Hewitt, TX but moved around the country throughout her life because she was a proud Navy wife. She married James Hugh Harkins in Waco on July 3rd 1948.
They started their lives together in Waco and lived with James sister Mary Ruth and husband Charlie until they moved to Texas City and started their family. She retired in the early 90s as an insurance agent admin in San Angelo, TX. She was named Insurance woman of the year in May 1988 and made her family proud of her late blooming career after raising her family.
She was known as Jean to the McClain side of the family and Bonnie to the Harkins side but to many family friends she was Ms. Bonnie and of course to her children they called her “Mom”.
She was predeceased in death by her father and mother, Bonnie & Telley McClain.  Brother M.G. McClain, twin brother Billy J McClain, four sisters Maurene Conkle, Edna Ruth Tubbs, Dorothy McClain & Robbie McClain. Husband, James H. Harkins; son, James Michael Harkins and infant daughter Donna Kay Harkins; infant grandson James Alexander Harkins.
Survivors include daughter Celia Harkins Hill; sons David Ross Harkins, Steven Charles Harkins & John Gregory Harkins; son in-law John Hill; daughter in-law Cathy Harkins; three grandsons Corey Harkins, David Hart, Kevin Hart and two granddaughters Stephanie Harkins Triana, Robin Harkins Alvarez and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Presbyterian Hospice 12477 Merit Drive, Dallas, TX 75251 or a favorite charity.
