Anita Jean Stubblefield, 72, of Waco passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be Friday, January 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Waco Memorial Funeral Home.
Anita was born Friday November 9, 1951, in Waco, Texas to Celestine Stubblefield in Waco Texas. She attended Waco schools, graduating from A.J. Moore High School. Anita attended McLennan Community College for the first two years of college, going on to graduate from Sam Houston State University in 1974, earning her master’s degree in education. Anita also earned a degree in counseling from Prairie View A&M University in 1985. Anita taught third grade at Roark Elementary School in Willis Texas for the first three years of her career.
Anita went on to teach at Crestview Elementary, Viking Hills Elementary, and West Avenue Elementary before moving back to Crestview Elementary where she taught until her retirement. Anita taught gifted and talented students, but Anita was not just a teacher, Anita was a person that built lasting, meaningful relationships with her students, parents, and her colleagues alike.
Anita was selfless, always giving and doing for others in whatever way she could. You could always count on Anita to be there whenever you needed her. She loved to cook for her family and friends, and always wanted to help in any way they might need. Anita enjoyed sharing her knowledge or just being a comfort and a shoulder to lean on during trying times.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Wanda Johnson.
She is survived by her siblings, Vera Brown, Marilyn Watkins, Mildred McLennan and husband, Cecil, and Mary Lockwood and husband, Charles, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
