Ada Edith Watley, 76, passed away April 25, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. She was born August 12, 1947, in McGregor, Texas, to James Lee and Lula Bell Harvey. Ada grew up in McGregor, where she attended G. W. Carver High School. She was baptized at an early age at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life she would go on to serve as an Usher, a Deaconess, and a loyal Sunday School and Mission One member.

She loved the Lord with her whole heart and soul. She was a worshipper and her love for the Lord and all that He had done for her was always in the forefront of her mind. She shared her love of and for Christ with everyone she met.

After high school she travelled the world as a military spouse with her three children, Tish, Val, and Stan. During her military travels, she served members of the Armed Forces and worked on numerous military installations, both abroad and in the United States.

Ada loved her parents and returned from her travels to care for and support them. The love of her life was Robert Lee Watley. They were happily married for 47 years.

She also loved to cook for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her famous Chicken Divinity, homemade Egg Rolls and Sweet Potato pies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James L. Harvey and Lula B. Harvey, her sister Jimmie L. Eastland and her beloved husband Robert L. Watley and daughter Angela Washington.

Ada leaves to cherish her memories her children, Tish Byrd, Valarie McLeain and husband, Tommy, Stanford Watley and wife, Amy, and Christina Watley; her beloved sisters, Martha Ann Johnson and Jo Ann Barfield and husband, Ronald; grandsons, Marshall Sean-Averee Gee, Tommy E. McLeain, Jr, Christan J. Baker, Christopher A. Byrd; granddaughters,   Ayonna C. Watley,  Angel N. Byrd, Cynvonica Arceneaux, India A. Watley, Ton’Eishia Washington, Destinee Robinson and DaNesha Robinson. She also leaves a host of other beloved family members and friends.

Ada’s Celebration of Life will be held at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, May 4th, 2024, at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow immediately after at McGregor Cemetery.  The repass will conclude the celebration at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all of those who loved our mama, Ada (Spoonktum) Watley.

The family of Ada E. Watley is grateful to the many friends, for all the expressions of kindness during her illness and since her expiration. Your love and support deeply strengthened us in ways you could not imagine. May the love of God be with you always.
