Dorothy Schlichting

August 27, 1929 — February 8, 2020

Dorothy Lee Schlichting, age 90, went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2020.

A visitation will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 13, 2020 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Waco Memorial Park, funeral services will follow at 12:00 o'clock; officiated by Dr. Wayne Blackshear, reflections by Pastor Buck Taylor.

She was born on August 27, 1929, at home in Belton, Texas, to William and Duley Smith. She married the love of her life, Herbert Schlichting, on March 15, 1946, who preceded her in death on September 13, 2008.

Dorothy loved ceramics and cooked delicious southern style dishes. She crochet and her hands were rarely still. She was ahead of her time and very outspoken and direct. She stood up for what was right and was always looking out for those left behind. A natural born leader that was loved by her family, friends, neighbors and her dog, Penney. She would have been the perfect advocate for seniors because she was always looking out for the elderly, because in her mind she was a young senior citizen.

She was a member of the Lodge of the Eastern Star of Texas and lived by one of her favorite sayings, “Strong women don’t have attitudes, they have standards.” She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, in the book of Romans – “She who kneels before God, can stand before anyone.”

Dorothy is survived by her only child, Herbert Dewayne Schlichting; 4 grandchildren Craig, Kelly, Lance and Courtney; plus 8 great grandchildren; cousins and nieces. A beloved aunt who is now free but not forgotten and loved forever. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Blue Bonnet whose love, care and patients will never be forgotten: Patricia Quinonez, Jessica Jones and Brenda Ford. They treated her like family.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Waco Memorial Park.
