Alfredo Macasil

May 13, 1932 — September 26, 2021

Alfredo, fondly known as "Al" or "Pastor Al" to friends and family, was born in Masbate, Philippines (PI).  He was the eldest of 10 children born to Beata Lacson Macasil and Arsenio Macasil.
At the age of 15, Al accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior at a revival meeting in the Philippines.  He loved the Lord and felt called to become a pastor. He graduated from Doane Baptist Bible College in Iloilo, PI.  After graduation, he worked for 2 years as an interpreter for an American missionary. They traveled all over the Island of Negros Occidental holding evangelistic meetings and starting Baptist churches.  He later pastored two Baptist churches, simultaneously for 6 years, in 2 neighboring communities in Negros.
In 1962, Al settled in California via his return from Amsterdam, Holland, where he was a Filipino delegate to an International Council of Christian Churches convention. To maintain his legal residency in the United States, Al attended various colleges and universities in California where he earned a bachelor degree in Political Science, a master degree in Education, and a life-time California Teaching Credential in secondary education.
Al worked as a teacher in a private school in Northridge CA, a bank teller-bookkeeper, and in 1970 he was hired as a secondary school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, from which he retired in 1999.
Al has been working in churches since he was 18 years old.  He has been a choir director, a Sunday school teacher, a minister of music, an assistant pastor, and a pastor. He was the pastor of Filipino First Baptist Church of Orange County CA for 14 years.  He was also Interim Director of Missions for the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association for a short term, and trustee and long-time member of Filipino Southern Baptist Ministries of California.
In 2018, Al and his wife, Linda, moved to Waco, TX to be near 3 of their children who live in the Waco area.
Al loved the Lord, the church, his family, and people in general. He was an encourager. He witnessed to people about Jesus Christ wherever and whenever he could.  He put up pictures of all of his family members on the wall of his study/music room. He arose early in the morning and prayed for as many of them as he could each day.
Al is survived by his 6 children from his marriage to the late Nenita Vocal Macasil:  Joyce (Len) Hayduchok, Janice (Neal) De Guzman, Roberson (Kim) Macasil, Jacqueline Johnson, Evangeline (Jim) Oney, and Nancy (Rick) Hoppe.
He is also survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda, and their 5 children: Stephen (Sharon) Macasil, Phillip (Marlo) Macasil, Sylvia (Darrin) Bobier, Andrew Macasil, and Michael (Loren) Macasil.
Al is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and by his 5 siblings in the Philippines:  Rizalina Tepait, Letty Maluya, Caridad Cosep, Ester Mapa and Abraham Macasil; and  by a multitude of nieces and nephews.
