Oren Wayne Sutherland, 71, of Waco, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004 due to his battle with cancer. Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Waco Memorial Park. Mr. Sutherland was born on August 27, 1932 in Goldwaite, Texas. He married Ruby Mae Quiram on August 10, 1957. They have been together for 46 years of marriage. They have four children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Mr. Sutherland retired from McLennan County Prct. 1, due to health reasons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending quality time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Susie Sutherland; two sisters Florence Mahan and Dorothy Thurman and one brother Bill Sutherland. Survivors include his wife Ruby Sutherland of Waco; sons David Sutherland and his wife Wendy of Wortham and Gary Sutherland and his wife Sherri of Lorena; daughters Pam Moore of Bastrop, Shirley Campbell and her husband David of Lorena, Beverly Gaines and her husband Steve of Hewitt and Debbie Stuckey of Austin; brothers Melvin Sutherland and his wife Chris of Bellmead and E.B. Sutherland of Axtell; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and beloved pets Sandy and Junior; numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry O'Neal, Ray Becker, Leslie Brooks, Clyde Nunley, Joe Makovy and Ronnie Shotwell. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Providence Hospice.
