Virgil John Uptmore, 75, of Waco, passed away Friday, June 11, 2004 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic in Waco with Father Angelo Bertini as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery in Tours. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Monday, June 14th at the funeral home.Mr. Uptmore was born February 10, 1929 in Waco, Texas to John Clement and Mary Catherine Seith Uptmore. He married Alma Engelke on December 26, 1953 and they celebrated 50 glorious years together. Mr. Uptmore worked for the International Paper Company for 19 years and retired from the City of Waco. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and he served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. "Pop" loved his family and the outdoors; he was an avid fisherman and loved to listen to country music. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Theresa Gail Uptmore, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.Survivors include his wife, Alma (Sissie) Uptmore of Waco, sons, Larry Uptmore, Mike Uptmore and his wife, Jo Ann and Virgil Uptmore, Jr. and his wife, Madeline all of Waco, daughters, Patricia Lykins and her husband, Richard of Waco and Pam Uptmore of Hubbard, 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sisters, Minnie Black of Waco, Josephine Curry of Dallas, Ernestine Kaluza of Waco and Ruby Vrba of Waco and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.Pallbearers will be Dustin (Possum) Uptmore, James Haigood, Jr., Joshua Lykins, Virgil Uptmore, III, Steve Hubik, Jr., Brandon Hubik, Shannon Maricle, Justin Rosen and Jeff Vrba.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Providence & Hillcrest Hospice.
