Veronica Elaine (Dudik) Harness, 70, passed away after a brief stay in a local hospital. Memorial graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, July 18, 2022, in Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 17, at the funeral home.
Veronica was born on September 20, 1951, in Cameron, Texas to Jimmie and Lorene Dudik. Her family moved to Waco shortly after the Waco tornado in 1953. Her mother frequently recalled a story of a black eye Veronica suffered at the hands of her brother playing baseball as the storms raged on miles away. During childhood, Veronica attended Crestview and Tennyson schools, and ultimately graduated from Richfield High in 1970. Ten years later, she married John Harness on September 6 at Christ Lutheran Church and continued to establish roots in Waco through their children, Jeremy and Lori. Veronica enjoyed many hobbies: gardening, reading her collection of Stephen King novels, caring for all animals (she never met a stray), antiquing, and attending ballgames, but her true love was her family, especially her grandkids. Veronica spent several years in the employ of Curry Office Supply (later known as Perry Office Plus) and before retiring, worked in downtown Waco at Cameron Trading Co. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jimmie A. Dudik, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, John Harness; son, Jeremy Harness, and daughter, Lori Bartels and husband, Brandon; grandchildren, Braxton Bartels, Lane Bartels, Ella Bartels, and Jake Bartels, and numerous dear friends.
