Veda Markwardt, 88 of Waco, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at Mart Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 5, 6 to 8 p.m. at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.Veda was born Sept. 3, 1923 to Burt Lee and Lula Dabney Shinault in Cooledge, Texas. She graduated Cooledge High School in 1941. After graduation she worked in the ship yards during World War II. After the ship yards, she worked for Safeway until retirement in 1982. She married Otto Markwardt on June 14, 1994. The marriage lasted 12 years until Otto's death on Jan. 14, 2007. Veda was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church.Mrs. Markwardt was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers and four sisters.Survivors include her special niece Vickie and husband, Jeff Squyres of McGregor. Their daughter Melinda and husband, Kevin Mullens with children Thomas, Nichole, William and Sophia of The Colony, TX; sister, Imogene Kasner of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.Condolences may be offered at connally-compton.com
