At the sweet age of 77 Tyra Lou Lewis went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 16th with loved ones by her side. Visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 9am to 11am at Waco Memorial Funeral Home. Services will begin at 11am at the funeral home with interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Soto and husband CJ Soto of New Braunfels. Her grandsons Ryan (wife Rychel) of Temple, Ausin (wife Callie) of Brush, Colorado, and Jake (wife Kimberly) of New Braunfels. She was blessed with six great grandsons that were the lights of her life; Gryffin, Marshall, Easton, Grady, Noah, and Graham. Her niece Libby Price and her nephews Justin Murray and Jared Murry. Her best friend and business partner of 34 years, Mel Juarez of Waco.Tyra had many extended family members and took every opportunity to make a new friend feel like family by sharing about her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry and Jimmy Tacker and her sisters Tommy Hawthorne and Caroline Wells, her niece Sharon, and her lifelong dance partner, Gene Lewis.
Tyra was born in Houston, Texas and resided in Marlin, Texas most of her life. Growing up she had a deep love for track, band, dancing, and adventure. Once her daughter Lori was born she was able to experience all of the things she had loved as a young girl again through Lori. Being a mom kept her young! Later on Tyra and her best friend started a construction cleanup business and through their tireless work she eventually was able to take her whole family on many travels with her. Tyra considered travelling to ball fields just as fulfilling and never missed a chance to support her grandsons and was “Nana” to everyone on the team. To know Nana was to be deeply loved and supported by her. She leaves behind an example of selflessness and thankfulness and faith no matter the circumstances.
