Thomas Alvin Staggs, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, passed away on April 8, 2026. Born on March 7, 1942, in Brownwood, Texas, Thomas led a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for his family and the simple pleasures of life.
Thomas began his journey attending school in Early, Texas, before enlisting in the United States Army in 1959. Following his honorable military service, he embarked upon a career with the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1966, he joined Texas Power & Light as a lineman, demonstrating exceptional skill and leadership that saw him rise to the position of service manager, and then crew foreman. He remained with the company through their many name changes, eventually retiring from TXU. His professional life was characterized by commitment and perseverance.
Thomas cherished the outdoors and found great joy in fishing, tending to his well-kept yard, and spending time with his beloved dogs. He also found pleasure in attending horse races, which was one of the pastimes that made him happy.
Thomas’s personal life was enriched by his beloved wife of 61 years, Cheryl Staggs, who stood by his side through all of life’s seasons. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Tonya Staggs and Alicia Kelley, and his son, Terry Staggs and wife, Debbie. His memory lives on through his nine grandchildren—Greg, Jordan, Correy, Breanna, Emily, Emerson, Kayla, Cassidy, and Nicole—and two step-grandchildren, Tyler and Cody. He is also fondly remembered by his sisters, Nelda Payton and Stella Belyeu, along with her husband, Tommy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his cherished fur babies: Scout and Shiloh, as well as his grand dog, Chachi.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Theron Alben Staggs and Agnes Cunningham Staggs; his daughter, Amber King; as well as his brothers, Darrell Staggs and Larry Staggs.
A visitation will be held to honor Thomas’s life on April 17, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Waco Memorial Funeral Home. This will be followed immediately by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in the Veteran's section of Waco Memorial Park.
