Obituary

Sophie Leshikar May 18, 1916 ~ September 14, 2008 Sophie Leshikar, 92, of Waco, passed away at a local nursing facility on Sunday, September 14, 2008. Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with the Dr. Larry Thomas officiating and burial to follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the funeral home. Sophie was born on May 18, 1916 in Abbott, Texas to Frances Adam and Joe M. Mikeska. She married the love of her life, Frank Leshikar, on Sept. 24, 1935. Sophie loved gardening, cooking, baking (kolaches), sewing and fishing. Quite the 'social butterfly', Sophie enjoyed making trips with friends and church groups, as well as helping to plan events and decorating by arranging centerpieces, etc. She always had such a pleasant disposition (was the eternal optimist) and incredible amount of patience. Life brought such joy to her! She was a member of the Berean Sunday school class, Central Presbyterian Church and SPJST. Preceding Sophie in death were her parents; husband, Frank, on Dec. 29, 1987; and brothers, Joe, Henry, John and Willie. Left behind to cherish her memory are sons, Richard Leshikar and wife, Margaret of Arlington and Larry Leshikar and wife, Twila of Hewitt; granddaughter, Amanda Leshikar of Waco; step grandchildren, Ross Leshikar, Niecy Coe and Kenny Arnold; four step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild. Special thanks to the great staff at Regent Care for providing such wonderful care for our Sophie for the past few years. Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church or Caritas.
