Simon Almanza, 73, passed away on April 2, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.The family will receive friends at Connally Compton Funeral Directors Chapel 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, with the Rosary recited 7:00p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 1015 at St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Roman Burgos as celebrant. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Almanza was born October 28, 1941 to Pablo and Maria Almanza in Waco, Texas. He was a graduate of Waco High School. Simon retired from the Air Force with over 24 years of service and was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 837. His hobbies included golf, softball, basketball and bowling. The Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs were his favorite sports teams.He is preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Pablo Almanza, Sr. and his brother, Pablo Almanza, Jr.Mr. Almanza is survived by his daughter, Debra Mehnert and husband Alex; grandchildren, Aubrey and Ethan Mehnert; siblings, Pete Almanza, Carmen Salas, Connie Martinez, Sylvia Ashley, Juanita Arechiga, and Teresa Hickey.Arrangements under the direction of Connally-Compton Funeral Directors, Waco, TX.
