Sgt. Benson "Poppy" Austin, 94, passed away in Waco, Texas January 7, 2014. Graveside services will 10a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Rosemound Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force.A visitation will be held from 6p.m. to 8p.m., Friday, January 10, 2014 at Connally Compton Funeral Directors.Poppy was born December 18, 1919 to Walter and Rena (Maggie) Austin. He served two years in the Army Air force and later joined the United States Air force as a Medic for over 22 years and fought in World War II. He worked at Cox's for many years and retired there in the 1980's.He is preceded in death by his parents, and four siblings.Survivors include his son, Richard Austin and wife Mary of Houston; adopted daughter, Tonita Higgins of Waco; nephew, Warren Terrell of Waco; niece, Barbara Norred; four grandchildren and several great grandchildren.Arrangements under the direction of Connally-Compton Funeral Directors, Waco, TX.
