Rosa G. Alonso, 80, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 at St. Francis Catholic Church on the Brazos with Rev. Roman Burgos as celebrant. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited by Deacon Jessie Garza at 6 p.m. Sunday at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. Mrs. Alonso was born October 3, 1928 in Rosebud, to parents Santos and Guadalupe Hernandez Garcia. She married John D. Alonso on September 30, 1956 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Waco and he preceded her in death in 1985. Two brothers, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren also preceded her in death. Survivors include her nine children, John Alonso and wife Manuela of Waco; Richard Alonso and wife Vera of Waco; Mario Alonso of Waco; George Alonso and wife Ann of Waco; Rosemary Alonso of Waco; Jerry Alonso and wife Susie of Waco; David Alonso of Cedar Park; Gloria Schauer and husband Jody of Waco; Joe Alonso of Waco; two brothers, Reynaldo and Eloy Garcia of Carrizo Springs; three sisters, Eva Badillo of Sunnyvale, CA; Celia Garcia and Anita Silva of Carrizo Springs; 33 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Her sons will serve as pallbearers.
