Robert Ray NiekampJanuary 15, 1951 ~ May 27, 2009 Robert Ray "Sweathog" Niekamp, 58, of Waco, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wed., May 27, 2009. Services will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2009 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Deacon Lorenzo Garcia officiating, and burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 31, at the funeral home. Robert Ray was born to Ida Mae Peters and Anton John Niekamp on January 15, 1951 in Waco. He graduated in 1970 from University High School. Robert served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. "Sweathog" worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Plant for 26 years before retiring in 2000. Besides enjoying being with his family and friends, he liked to fish, watch wrestling, barbecue, gamble in Louisiana and play the lottery. Robert really lived life to the fullest, right up until the end. Preceding him in death was his father, on November 8, 1976. Left behind to cherish his memory are his fiancé, Sue Berrios of Hewitt; mother, Ida Mae Niekamp of Waco; brother, Anton Niekamp of Waco; sisters, Mary and husband, Robert Jack Williams of Speegleville; Rita Niekamp of Waco; and Donna Niekamp of Waco; nephew, Joshua Williams and wife, Kristi of Hewitt and their children, Cindel and Rylan; and his four-legged companions, Pooter and Friskie. Pallbearers will be Robert Anderson, Kerry Arseneaux, Sammy Hernandez, Anton Niekamp, Donna Niekamp, Rita Niekamp, Robert Ruiz and Nick Sisneros.
