Raymond McConnell, Sr.October 7, 1933 ~ October 7, 2007 Raymond McConnell, Sr., 74, of Waco passed away at a local hospital on Sunday, October 7, 2007. Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. David Leibham officiating as celebrant. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, at the funeral home. Raymond Francis was born the son of Daniel Briten and Cornelia Etta Youmans McConnell on October 7, 1933 in Warwick, New York. He married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Ann Fortune, on July 27, 1956 in Waco, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. In 1996 he retired from ASCO (Automatic Switch Company) after working as a foreman for them for 50 years. His parents preceded him in death. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth McConnell of Waco; sons, Raymond McConnell, Jr. and wife, Caroline of Spring Hill, FL and Robert McConnell and wife, Zena of Knoxville, TN; daughters, Patricia Varga and husband, Douglas of Knoxville, TN and Mary Whalen and husband, James of Bricktown, NJ; and six grandchildren.
