Randy "Poodie" LockeOctober 3, 1948 ~ May 6, 2009 Randy "Poodie" Locke, 60, of Briarcliff, formerly of Waco, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Services will be 2 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Woodway, 101 Ritchie Road, Waco, Texas with Dr. David Hardage officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 10, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. James Randall Locke was born on Oct. 3, 1948 in Waco, Texas to Gloria Donna Main and James Houston Locke. Poodie attended North Texas State University and worked at the Marriott while attending school there. During this period he also served in the Air National Guard. Poodie started in the music business in 1973 to work for B. W. Stevenson. In November 1975 he hired on to work for Willie Nelson starting as an equipment load man and worked his way up to stage manager. He was an avid golfer and member of Briarcliff Golf Club. Through Poodie's Hilltop Bar & Grille he helped many musicians get their start, as many went on to become successful recording artists. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Preceding Poodie in death was his father, James H. Locke. Left behind to grieve his loss and celebrate his life are his mother, Gloria "Mama" Locke of Waco; love of his life, Shaye Groves of Briarcliff; sister, Cindi Lou Locke of Spicewood; niece, Ashley and husband, James Vincent of Waco; nephew, Dillon Locke-Boles and life partner, Dial Boles of Austin; great-niece, Hanna Vincent of Waco; and his precious dog, Barney. Pallbearers will be Joe Ables, Bill Crow, Norman Draper, Richard Kasey, Kenny Koepke, Bill Noble, Buddy "Budrock" Prewitt, and Tom Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are Don "Colonel" Tyson, Willie Nelson and Family, Wally Selman, Randy "R.T." Turner, Brooks Ellis, J. B. Crook, and the whole state of Texas. The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the Hamm or Sim Foundation (musicians without insurance).
