Minnie LathernSeptember 18, 1917 ~ February 5, 2008 Minnie Lathern, 90, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Dr. Keith Manning officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at the funeral home. Minnie Julia was born on Sept. 18, 1917 in New Baden, Texas to Katharina Sauer and Alfred Andrew Pfistner. Minnie married the love of her life, Norman H. Lathern on Jan. 21, 1939 in Golinda, Texas. She spent her life caring for and serving others. How we appreciate the many sacrifices she made over the years so that we could be comfortable. What a wonderful example she set for us of what a devoted help mate should be. Minnie was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and taught Sunday school and VBS for many years. She loved to cook and all who entered her home would tell you they never left hungry. We'll also fondly remember all of the fragrant flowers she grew and kept in each yard we had growing up. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 68 years; and brothers, Andrew, Emil, Alfred and Walter Lathern. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Norman Larry Lathern and wife, Jean of Lorena; daughters, Kathy Turk and husband, Bob of Cypress and Jeanette Scarborough and husband, Gayle of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Shelly Brown and husband, Ben, Erica Duncan and husband, Brian, Shane Downing and wife, Kandi, Heather Downing Henslee, Michelle Gray and husband, Chad, Mike Turk and wife, Amy, and Jeff Turk and wife, Paige; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Hayden and Carson Brown, Madison and Parker Duncan, Ashtyn and Drew Downing, Lexie and Macie Gray, Sydney and Taylor Grace Turk; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ben Brown, Brian Duncan, Shane Downing, Sam Hill, Jeff Turk and Mike Turk.
