Obituary

Maurine C. Burleson (Mrs. E.B.) died Sunday, August 31, 2003 at her home in Waco.Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Connally/Compton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Holland and Monsignor Mark Deering officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. September 1, 2003 at the funeral home.Mrs. Burleson was born in Haskell, Texas, on June 1, 1908, and was the only daughter of John A. and Sally M. Couch. She graduated from Baylor University in 1929. While a Baylor student, she was a Baylor Beauty and a member of "The Sunshine Girls" singers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward B. Burleson, whom she married on June 6, 1931. "Nana", as her family knew her, lived in Waco from her freshman year at Baylor until her death, and was a member of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church. She loved and adored her family and epitomized the best qualities of a Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.Left to cherish her memory and to live the lessons of love, faith and dignity that she taught, are her son and daughter-in-law Ed and Carolyne Burleson of Waco, her daughter and son-in-law Mary Sue and Jim Westmoreland of Houston, her grandsons and their wives, John and Debra Burleson, Charles and Julie Burleson, Ted and Miriam Westmoreland, her granddaughters and their husbands Susan W. and Scott McConkey, Laura W. and Nelson DeVega, and her great grandchildren: Jim Burleson, Scott Burleson, Meg Burleson, Rachel Burleson, Andrew Burleson, Jake Westmoreland, Maurine Westmoreland, Greg McConkey, Shannon McConkey and Lila DeVega.Pallbearers include: John Burleson, Charles Burleson, Ted Westmoreland, Scott McConkey, Nelson DeVega, Noley Bice, Judge Joe Johnson, Tommy Riggs and Nick Klaras.The family wishes to thank Jean Garretson, Mary Sackett, Linda Trueheart, Renita Trueheart, Bernadine Irby, Maria DeLeon and Sissy Akin for the love and care they provided for Nana in recent years, and extends its very special gratitude to Dr. Richard Jackson.Memorials may be made to the E.
