Obituary

Mary Helen Guerra Flores, 46, of Waco went to be with her Lord & Savior Wednesday June 25, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday June 28, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Reverend Angelo Bertini as celebrant, burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Rosary will be recited on Friday June 27th at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mary was born in Waco, Texas to Simon & Florentina Guerra on April 3, 1957. She married Joe W. Flores on July 25, 1981 and to this union was born 3 children. Mary worked many years at Hillcrest's Pediatric Unit and for local pediatrician, Dr. Harvey Spark. Most recent she was employed at Baylor's Health Center and the Veterans Affairs Regional office as a rating specialist. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother and sister. Her devoted Christian faith sustained her throughout her life. Mary was an avid Texas Aggie fan and enjoyed numerous hobbies including photography, knitting, crocheting and quilt making. She had a beautiful personality and a gentle loving heart. Throughout her 25 year nursing career she cared for many children and will always be remembered for her kindness and compassion. Mary was preceded in death by her sister Christine Guerra. She is survived by her husband; Joe, children; Marlena, Candice and Joey, parents; Mr. & Mrs. Simon Guerra, in-laws; Mr. & Mrs. Joe Q. Flores, brother; Edward Guerra and sister; Margaret Salinas. She also leaves to cherish her memory her devoted aunt Natalia Alonzo who cared for since infancy and was like a mother to her. Other survivors include numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends who will miss her greatly. Pallbearers will be Ralph Ocha, David Dyer, Gilbert Guerra, Gilbert J. Schlemmer, Randy Flores and Chris Guerra. Memorial may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. A very special word of thanks to all who helped care for her & the out pouring of love & comfort provided by her cousins Barbara, Connie & Dolores.
