Marie Mitchell Sanders, 86, formerly of Waco, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at a Dallas hospital. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Waco Memorial Park (6635 South IH35) with the Rev. Pat Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at Connally-Compton Funeral Home (4400 West Waco Drive). The oldest of five children, Marie was born march 26, 1923, in Austin, Texas, to Earl and Mary Mitchell. She attended St. Mary's Academy in Austin and graduated from Durham Business School. She worked for Civil Service in Austin and Houston. In 1951, she married Arthur E. (Gene) Sanders. She and Gene owned and operated an appliance store in Navasota before moving to Waco in 1966. While in Waco, she worked at the Veteran's Administration Regional Office, James Connally Air Force Base and Beall's Department Store. Gene and Marie celebrated their 50th Anniversary before he passed away in 2001. Marie was a devoted Christian and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her family, friends, church and volunteer work. In Waco, she was a member at Western Heights Baptist Church and volunteered at Providence Hospital. Marie moved to Dallas in 2005 to live with her daughter and enjoy five of her grandsons. She became a member of Northlake Baptist Church in Dallas. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include her daughters, Shelly Sanders Schutze and husband Stuart, of Dallas and Sandra Sanders Steves and husband Taylor, of Bay City; brother, Arthur Mitchell and his wife Sharon of Austin; sister-in-law, Bernice Mitchell of Austin; brother-in-law, Joe Pilaar of Aurora, CO; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Even though her life on earth has ended, her eternal life with her heavenly Father has just begun.
