Marie Chapman, 83, of Waco, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Aug. 7, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2008, at Connally-Compton Funeral Directors with Rev. D.L. Summers officiating. Graveside services will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors 4-6 p.m. Sunday, August 10, at the funeral homeOn November 7, 1924, Marie was born to John M. Moore and Eunice Kissinger in Whitney, TX. By 1943, she had come to Waco and met her life long partner J.D. Chapman. Marie and J.D. were married in 1947 and spent the next forty years raising a family and carving a permanent niche in the Waco community. Since 1964, J.D. and Marie worked seven days a week to grow an active produce business which would later be known as J.D. Chapman's Drive Inn Grocery and Produce 1116 S. Valley Mills Drive. After J.D.'s death in 1987, Marie and her children continued a legacy in Waco from Chapman's Check Cashing Services to real estate development to Chapman Ranch. Marie had a very deep passion for work and an immense love for all people she came into contact with. She will always be remembered by family as mother and grandma or by friends and customers as "Mrs. Chapman."Marie was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Chapman, her parents, John M. Moore and Eunice Kissinger, a brother, John E. Moore, a step-son Cecil Chapman and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Smith. She is survived by her children, James Smith, Doris Heard and husband, Edley, Jerry Chapman, all of Waco, Kay Chapman Rhodes of Crystal Beach, Paula Chapman Ray of Austin; two step-children, Curtis Chapman of Waco and Barbara Chapman Ard of Gholson; two brothers, Harvey Moore of Maine; James Kissinger of Aquilla; two sisters, Pauline Kelsey of West; Janetta Ward of Whitney; nineteen grandchildren, Christina Smith, Jennifer Smith, Sheila Thompson, Jimmy Heard, Terry Heard, R. Wade Mason, Melissa Coleman, Justin Chapman, Lacey Chapman Gillentine, Stephanie Pavelka, Rebecca Pavelka, Paul Chapman, Jennifer Chapman, Michael Rhodes, James Terry, Misty Stewart, Ashley Terry, Dustin Terry, Whitney Ray; twenty-five great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of many other family members and close family friends. Pallbearers will be Justin Chapman, Jimmy Heard, Terry Heard, Billy Ray Jr., Dwaine Cotton, and John Terry. The family encourages memorials to be made in lieu of flowers to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Central Texas Affiliate at P.O. Box 8504, Waco, TX 76708.It has saddened many hearts to lose such a wonderful woman. Marie has touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
