Lorene K. EddsNovember 4, 1914 ~ October 17, 2007 Lorene Keith Edds passed away on October 17, 2007 due to natural causes in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Connally-Compton Funeral directors Chapel with the Rev. Mike Toby officiating. Burial will follow at Little Flock Cemetery near Temple. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19 at the funeral home. Alta Lorene was born in Rogers, Texas in 1914 and graduated from Temple High School in 1932. After Dr. and Mrs. Edds were married, they resided in College Station where Mrs. Edds supported her husband as he attended school and subsequently became a professor in the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine as well as in St. Paul, Minnesota, Fort Dodge, Iowa where Dr. Edds was a vice president for Fort Dodge Laboratories, Gainesville, Florida where Dr. Edds headed the Veterinary Science Department at the University of Florida, and finally, Waco where the couple spent their retirement years. While living in Iowa Mrs. Edds served as Vice President of Iowa Women's Missionary Union, President of her P.E.O. chapter and PTA President for Duncombe Elementary School and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Dodge. While living in Gainesville Mrs. Edds served as PTA President at J.J. Finley Elementary School, was an active member of P.E.O and the First Baptist Church of Gainesville, and held several offices with both the University Women's Club and the Gainesville Women's Club. After retiring to Waco, Dr. and Mrs. Edds traveled extensively throughout the United States and South America. Mrs. Edds was an active member of First Woodway First Baptist Church and her local P.E.O. chapter. Mrs. Edds was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 68 years, George Tyson Edds; and her brother, Lamon Keith of Clovis, New Mexico. Mrs. Edds is survived by her son, Charles Mack Edds of Belton, Texas; her daughters, Pamela West of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and Cindy Dumont of Roswell, Georgia; her sons-in-law Dick West and Jimmy Dumont; her grandchildren, Chani West of Opelika, Alabama, Brendan Dumont of Atlanta, Georgia, Devin Dumont of Savannah, Georgia, Carly Dumont of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Mary Dumont of Atlanta, Georgia; devoted sisters-in-law, Vivian Bennett of Gatesville, Texas, Edith Thompson of Houston, Texas and Joanne Keith of Clovis, New Mexico; as well as many loving nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Currie Bishop. Devin Dumont, Jim Dumont, Dink Hunnicutt, and Scott Patterson. Honorary pallbearers are Brendan Dumont, Barry Keith, Derle Keith and Richard C. West.
