Lois Francis McCoy RutherfordMay 2, 1922 ~ April 5, 2009 Lois Rutherford, a long-time resident of Kaufman, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2009 after a brief illness. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco. Visitation with family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors, 4400 W. Waco Dr. in Waco. Lois was born in Murchison, TX on May 2, 1922. She graduated from La Vega High School in Bellmead, TX in 1939. She met her late husband, Jack D. Rutherford while attending school. They were married in 1939 until his passing in 2005.She was employed by Gulf States Telephone (now Sprint) in Kaufman and Athens, TX for 25 years. During her time of employment, she was recognized as the only employee who never missed a day of work. Also during that time she was the primary caregiver for her husband, who was disabled for 34 years prior to his death. Lois was an artist who loved all forms of creativity, from painting to ceramics. She won various state and national design awards for her ceramic creations. Lois continued to be dedicated to her craft by teaching painting and ceramics to college students, from her home, until shortly before her death. Preceding her in death are her parents, Marguerite and Barney McCoy; sister, Helen; and brothers, Jack and Bill. She is survived by her son, Barry Rutherford and wife, Un and grandson, Griffin, all of Plano; and brother, Tom McCoy of Houston. The family asks that donations be made to the Samaritan Care Hospice, 9535 Forest Lane, Suite 211, Dallas, TX 75243.
