A loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Lela Cecelia DeHerrera slipped peacefully into heaven on Sunday, January 16, 2005 after a courageous battle with several illnesses. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 20 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Brad Moore officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wed., Jan 19 at the funeral home.Lela was born to Claude and Anna Mico Lester on June 16, 1950 in Waco. She married Larry William DeHerrera, Sr. on June 8, 1977. Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Larry Lester; and sister, Jackie Lester.Surviving Lela was her husband of 27 years, Larry W. DeHerrera, Sr. of Ross; sons, Larry W. DeHerrera, Jr. of Arizona and Charles E Barker of Waco; daughters, Tammy M. DeHerrera of Ross, Kristianna Counts of Marshall, and Heather and Destiny DeHerrera of Ross; grandsons,Charles Jr. Farrin, Dalton, Landon, Lance and Jacob; granddaughters, Rena,Brittany&Abigal; brother, Douglas Mico Lester of San Antonio; sister, Anna Claudette Barker of West; mother-in-law, Norma Jean DeHerrera of Okla.; sisters-in-law, Linda Ryan and husband Tom of Okla. and Denise Waters of Kansas; brothers-in-law, Alex DeHerrera and wife Glenda of Kansas, Pete DeHerrera and wife Marie of Lacy Lakeview, Danny DeHerrera and wife Tammy of Missouri, Michael Waters and wife Amy of Okla., T. J. Waters of Kansas; many, many loved nieces, nephews, greats & great-greats, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.Pallbearers will be Pete DeHerrera, Anthony Pacheco, Tony DeHerrera, Allen Barker, Daryl Barker, and Michael Waters.Lela always had open arms to anyone who needed help and gave generously to them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and those whose paths crossed hers.
