Kenneth O. Henager, 80, passed away peacefully April 9, 2017 surrounded by family.Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m., Thursday, April 13, at Connally Compton Funeral Directors with Dr. Joe Bailey and Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.Kenneth was born December 17, 1936 in Leon Junction, Texas to Jesse and Mattie (Bates) Henager. He was a devote Christian and was saved at Pecan Grove Baptist Church in Coryell County. In February of 1958, he met the love of his life, Waydell Freeman, at that same church during Sunday morning service. They married in Gatesville, Texas April 15, 1960 and to that union on December 12, 1961, they welcomed their only child, Janis Marie Henager.Kenneth and Waydell moved their membership to Beverly Hills Baptist Church in 1965 in Waco, Texas. Kenneth was very active with the Church Bus Ministry driving a bus route and volunteering as mechanic for their fleet of 10 buses. He was ordained as a Deacon in March of 1974. Kenneth taught the 6th grade boys Sunday school class for many years. After moving to the Speegleville area, Kenneth and Waydell moved their membership to Speegleville Baptist Church. They also spent a few years attending First Baptist Church of Hewitt and returned back to Speegleville Baptist to be closer to home. Kenneth started working for the Texas Highway Department in 1959 and retired after 34 years of dedicated service. He was a shop mechanic for 17 years and became a shop foreman for the remaining 17 years. He was an avid trout line fisherman who frequently caught fish that weighed anywhere from 20 to 60 pounds from his secret fishing places shared in confidence with his son-in-law. They had many pleasurable trips together. Kenneth would share his catch with several of the churches at their fish fries and at several family reunions. He is preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings.Survivors include his wife, Waydell Henager. They would have celebrated 57 years together this week. He is also survived by his daughter, Janis Marie Guest and husband James Gregory Guest; grandchildren, Amber Nicole Guest and Rachel Nicole Guest both of New York City; brother, Vernon Henager and wife Bobbie and numerous nieces and nephews.Kenneth grew up in the depression and that molded him as to the man he became.
