Joyce Marcell Griffith, 72, of Ferris, formerly of Waco, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2005. Funeral services were held at 10:30 am, Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel, Dr. David Hardage officiating. Interment followed at Waco Memorial Park-North. Visitation with family and friends was from 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, May 18 at the funeral home.Joyce was born October 18, 1932, in Waco, to Virgil Nicholas and Tebie Garrison Marcell. She graduated from LaVega High School in 1950 and was married to Thomas Edward Griffith, Sr. on February 3, 1951, celebrating over 54 years of marriage. She worked in the insurance and travel industries as a personnel manager for most of her life as well as supporting both her father and her husband in their businesses. Those were Marcell's Cafeteria in Waco, Podzie's Hamburgers in Dallas, and Podzie's Barbecue in West. Those who knew her well will surely remember her for her love of antiques and going 'junkin',' and especially how much she enjoyed her time working at Peel's County Steakhouse in the antique mall. In recent years she grew quite fond of all the birds whom she fed daily with her collection of bird-feeders. She also enjoyed spending time in her flower garden and watching the fish in her fish pond. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Tebie Marcell; and grandson, Bradford Allen Griffith.She is survived by her husband, Tom Griffith of Ferris; their three children: sons, Tommy & Bo Griffith of Chalk Bluff and David & Kim Griffith of Ferris; and daughter, Sherri & Mike Hatfield of Austin. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren who all loved her dearly, John Griffith of Portland, OR, Nikki & Teddy Oliver of Valdosta, GA, Scotty Griffith of Chalk Bluff, Susie & Keith Sandhoff of Shreveport, LA, Jake Griffith of Midland, Daniel Griffith of Ferris, Kelsey Griffith of Ferris, Sarah & Ross Allen of Round Rock, and Mandi Hatfield of Little Rock, AR. Additionally, she had three great-grandchildren, Cody, Cory & Casey of Valdosta, Georgia. Other family included her two sisters, Deena & Dick Reeves of Marshall and Jean Norris of Pasadena; along with several nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be John Griffith, Scotty Griffith, Randy Norris, Bobby Norris, Rick Reeves, and Carroll Reeves. Honorary pallbearer is Daniel Griffith.Our family sincerely thanks the kind nursing staff and Family First Hospice who cared for Joyce over the last few months, and we especially want to thank our new friend, Edna Massey, of Ennis, who was with us every day.
