John GutierrezJuly 30, 1942 ~ October 1, 2008 John Gutierrez, 66, of Hewitt, passed away early on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at home. Services will be 2 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2008 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Robert Gutierrez officiating. Burial will follow at Old Perry Mexican Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the funeral home. John was born on July 30, 1942 to Isabel Reyna and Felix Perez Gutierrez in Moody, Texas. He and his wife, Donna Kay Thomas, were together for 16 years. John served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1966 with the 101st Airborne, the 82nd Airborne and the 1st Cavalry Divisions. He was a member of VFW Post #6008 in Hewitt. Over the years John was employed by Hooker Construction, Smith Buildings, Linden Coone and Pledger Construction. His grandchildren were his life! Preceding John in death were his parents; sister, Linda Wilhite; and infant brothers, Robert and Daniel. Left behind to cherish John's memory are his wife, Donna Gutierrez of Hewitt; sons, Don Gutierrez and wife Shawnee, James Gutierrez, Terry Gutierrez, Charles Gutierrez and wife, Cara, all of Waco; step-children, Becky Fikes, Aimee Munn and husband, Chip, and John Fikes and wife, Samantha, all of Waco; grandchildren, Scarlett, Jessica, Shaylee, Jacob, Joshua and Cameron; step-grandchildren, Clark and McKenna; siblings, Alma, Jesse, Joe Bob, and Irene Gutierrez, and Bea Spears, all of Moody, Felix and Henry Gutierrez of Houston, Esther Pearce of Gatesville, Mary Gilliam of Crawford, and Sally Burnett of Romania; and 18 nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John Fikes, Charles, Jacob, James, John Charles, and Shane Gutierrez. Honorary pallbearer is Martin Becerra.
