James H. Gordon Jr.November 16, 1924 ~ July 15, 2010 James H. Gordon Jr. 85, a lifelong resident of Waco, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, peacefully at home with his loving wife of 64 years by his side. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 19, 2010 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Bro. Morgan Woodard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Prairie Hill Cemetery, Prairie Hill, TX. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the funeral home. James was born November 16, 1924 in Delia, TX. He married Dorothy Sissom on January 4, 1946 in Waco, TX. He was in the farm equipment business for over 50 years. James also served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the "Navy Seabees" serving in the Admiralty Islands, South Pacific for 2 years. Mr. Gordon's great Customer Service reputation led him to become manager of Farmer's Supply in Waco. He went on to become Co-Owner of Central Texas Farm Equipment and retired in 2001. His passion for the industry won him many awards from the Mid-Tex Farm & Ranch Show. They included winning the outstanding service and dedication to the tractor mechanics contest for over 35 years of service as well as the appreciation of years of service to the FFA tractor mechanics contest. James was an avid bird hunter who spent his days with his loyal companion and favorite hunting dog, Reggie. He also enjoyed being a member of the local Quail Unlimited chapter. He will be deeply missed by his family and countless friends. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gordon; two daughters, Sharon Miller, Debbie Gamble and husband, John Gamble, all of Hewitt. He was affectionately known as "Papaw" by four grandchildren, Kristie Case and husband, Jeff, Karen Macy and husband, Jerrod, both of Hewitt, Gary Miller of Mound, TX and D.J. Yoder of Austin; 8 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Tommy Corley, J.L. Davis, Scott Felton, Marion Lankford, Henry Macik and James Nevills. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Adams, Bert King, Manuel Fuentes and Tracy Shaffer. Following graveside services, the family will be at the home of John and Debbie Gamble, at 913 Lands End Cove, Hewitt, Texas.Arrangements under the direction of Connally/Compton Funeral Directors, Waco, TX.
