James D. Smith Dec. 12, 1938 ~ April 7, 2006 James D. Smith, 67, of Hewitt passed away at a Temple hospital on Friday, April 7, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 11 at Lakeshore Church of Christ with Ernie Christie officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 10 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. James D. was born to Dee and Polly Glenn Bourrough Smith in Coleman, Texas on Dec. 12, 1938. He married Linda Morie Caruthers on July 7, 1961. James graduated in 1955 from Coleman High School and from Texas A&M in 1960, eighth in his class, with a degree in civil engineering. He was an elder at Lakeshore Church of Christ and served prior to that as a deacon at Crestview Church of Christ. James was a licensed Texas Civil Professional Engineer. Preceding James in death were his parents, Dee and Polly Smith; and brother, Don L. Smith. Survivors include his wife, Linda Smith of Hewitt; sons, Ronald Smith of Waco and Jaret Smith of Hewitt; daughter, Melinda Smith of The Woodlands; sister-in-law, Mary Emma Smith of Brownwood; nephew, Kent Smith of Ft. Worth; niece, Adelia Rice and husband, Mike of Dallas; and cousin, Carla Justice and husband, Pat of Coleman. Pallbearers will be Dean Conner, John Garland, Doyle Helms, James King, Tim Loftin and Jim Skrabanek.
