Obituary

Jacinto Mendoza Lopez, 79, of Waco, reunited with his wife Santiaga on this fourteenth anniversary of her death, Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at his residence. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with visitation beginning at 6 p.m. Mr. Lopez was born September 11, 1926 in McGregor to parents, Jose and Eulogia Mendoza Lopez. He was a retired carpenter with Khoury Inc. Mr. Lopez served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He also received a Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Army Occupation Ribbon (Japan). He married Santiaga Tellez on August 22, 1948 in Waco and she preceded him in death on July 12, 1992. A son, Guadalupe, four brothers, Ciprano, Ben, Ambrocio and Antonio and a sister, Josefa Ruiz also preceded him in death. He was a member of American Legion Post #121, Knights of Columbus 3rd degree Council 11015, Knights of Columbus 4th degree Council 1109. He was a past member of Waco Missions and SMM de Jornaleros. He played saxophone and accordion and was lead singer with several local bands including his own. Until the death of his beloved wife Santiaga and his disability he was always very active with Sacred Heart Church from its beginning up to the construction of the new church. He was also a member of the St. Francis Cursillo. A special thanks to William R. Courtney, Texas State Veterans Home and St. Mary's Catholic Church of Temple for the love shown to Jacinto and his family during this difficult time. Pallbearers will be Steve Lopez, Ernest Montelongo, Tony Galindo, Frank Galindo, Ralph Gonzales and Ernest Galindo. Honorary bearers will be his beloved nieces. Flag bearers will be Leonard Montelongo, Jr. Henry Lopez, Joe Lopez, Carl Galindo and John Galindo. Survivors include three daughters, Rufina Lopez and husband Juan of Dayton; Frances Lopez of Houston; Janey Lopez of Waco; one sister, Luisa Galindo of Waco; grandchildren, Jeannette Salazar, Marisela Estrada, Karen Flores, Jacinto Flores and Elena Lopez; step-grandchildren, Olivia Lopez and Danielle Lopez; ten great-grandchildren.
