Irene R. Calderon, 87, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021 in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 PM, Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM with Rosary at 7 PM, Monday, November 1, 2021 at the funeral home.
Irene was born on July 10, 1934 to Juan and Consuelo (Huerta) Rodriguez in Waco, TX. She was a longtime resident of Waco, TX. Irene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She married the love of her life, Porfirio Calderon on February 27, 1961 in Waco, TX. They celebrated 60 years together. Irene worked in the Food Service at the V. A. Hospital for 10 years. She also worked for Home Health for 5 years. Irene enjoyed playing bingo, watching the games shows, football, baseball, and most of all, she was an avid Cowboy fan. Irene also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Joe V. Rodriguez, Raymond Rodriguez, sister, Mary Rodriguez.
Survivors include her husband, Porfirio Calderon of Waco, TX, son, Michael Calderon and wife, Rita of Waco, TX, daughter, JoAnn Olvera and husband, Guadalupe of Waco, TX, grandchildren: Anthony Olvera and wife, Cristina, Alex Olvera and fiancé, Audrie, Michael Calderon, Jr., Marisa Calderon, great-grandchildren: Sofia, Mara, Daniel, and Santiago; sisters, Lupe Carmona of Alvin, TX, Becky Schoonover of Portland, TX, Gloria Abels of Waco, TX, brother, Ralph Rodriguez of Robinson, TX.
