Idissie went home to be with the Lord October, 25, 2015Homegoing Celebration services will be held 11:00a.m, October 31, 2015 at Connally Compton Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow in Doris Miller Memorial Park. Mrs. Brandon will be available for viewing from 8a.m. to 7p.m. at the funeral home and 8a.m. to 10:30a.m. the day of the service.Otis and Mary Gowan were blessed with their third child named Idissie on November 1, 1922. Idissie attended public school at Olive Heights Elementary School and Moore High School. Her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and friends loving referred to Idissie as "Birt" or Aunt Birt.By confessing hope and faith in Christ at an early age, Idissie begin a lifelong relationship with God. She joined Church of the Living God (PGT). She met and married T. Vernon Brandon and to this union two children were born. Together, they worked in various areas of the Church of the Living God, PGT and served as models for their children. Idissie participated in the choir; teacher and superintendent for the Sunday School Department; member and teacher for the missionary society; and served as usher of the church. Preceding Idissie in death: her husband, T. Vernon Brandon; her parents, Otis and Mary Gowan; stepmother, Frankie Gowan; siblings, Herman Gowan, Otis Gowan, Jr., R.G. Gowan, Helen Marie Haliburton, Lucille Williams,T. J. Gowan, and Dorothy Gowan and Katie Mae Howlett.Celebrating the life of Idissie Gowan Brandon are: children, Larry George Thornton, Jaydynn (Sacramento, CA); Linda Kay Wiley, Donell (Temple, TX); James Edward Brandon (Dallas, TX); granddaughter, Natasha Talbert, David (Waco, TX); great-grandchildren, Adrian Walker, Davion Talbert, Trestean Talbert, Taylor Talbert (all of Waco, TX), favorite niece, Elaine Thomas, James (Waco, TX); special friends Pat Higgins, (Austin, TX), Kenneth Rowe, (Dallas, TX), Chris Chapman, (Jackson, MS) Julia Jackson (Waco, TX) Roy Williams, Jane (Waco, TX); favorite nephew, Jo Ed Anderson (Arlington, TX) and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.Arrangements under the direction of Connally-Compton Funeral Directors, Waco, TX.
