Hugh EppsNovember 1, 1923 ~ January 1, 2009 Hugh Epps, 85, of Houston, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, January 4, at First Baptist Church, San Angelo where Mr. Epps was a longtime member and deacon. Family graveside services will be 2 p.m., Monday, January 5, at Waco Memorial Park, Waco. Hugh Samuel was born in Turnersville, Texas on Nov. 1, 1923 to parents, Jonnie Morris Epps and Jim Epps. He served in the Army from 1943 until 1946 during World War II in the South Pacific battlefield. After the war Hugh attended Baylor University in Waco, and worked at Connally Air Force Base as a civilian until its closure, continuing his civil service career with the Air Force at San Angelo, where he retired after 37 years of service. Preceding him in death were his parents. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Rena Epps; daughters, Deborah Walker and Denise Siegel and husband, Richard, all of Houston; grandchildren, Jacob Walker of Austin, Sally Walker of Galveston and Samuel Siegel of Houston; and great-grandchildren to Jazzera and Cade Walker of Austin; sister, Jo Nichols of Waco; brothers, Jim Epps of Omaha, Nebraska, Barney Epps of Arlington, Texas and Clovis Epps and his wife, Mildred of Round Rock, Texas.
