GRANDMA

Guadalupe "Lupe" Porras Garcia, 88, of Waco, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 14. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 19 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18 at Connally-Compton Funeral Home in Waco.

Lupe was born in Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose Porras and Narcisa Flores on February 9, 1930. Survivors include a sister, Pilar Yanez; son, John Garcia and his wife, Irene; her daughters Maria Lourdes Smithwick, Rosie Garcia, Marisa Soliz and her husband, Robert Jr; twelve grandchildren, Myra and Joe Zarraga; Lorenzo, Juan, Cecilia, Ramon and Pascual Garcia, James Smithwick; Robert, Alexis, Serenity and Victoria Soliz; great grandchildren, Javier, Ariana, Juan, Jose, Angela Camacho; Elijah and Matias Zarraga.

Grandma was a legacy of her own. She was a person that gave so much and asked for so little in return. She was always willing to help anyone in need. She had so much patience. She taught the grandchildren how rewarding it is to do something for someone when it is done out of love. Humbleness was her nature.

Grandma was a link to the past, with a heart of gold. She was our sunshine on a rainy day. Grandma was a bridge through time full of information and wisdom. Her mind was intact that she could tell a million tales of history that taught us so much about Family. Grandma was a security blanket with a stern connection on Family. She always made sure that her family was well and had everything.

Grandma was the cornerstone of the family, especially when there were tough times within the family. Her strong belief in God was implemented within her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a loving, remarkable personality that made everyone feel like she was their grandma. She had several nephews and nieces that she loved and prayed for every day. She loved her sister, Pilar Yanez, with all her heart and even they were far apart she thought of her daily. To many of her grandchildren, she was their best friend. Her facial expressions were priceless. Her laughter was so full of life. Grandma was 88 but her age would not hold her back.

Grandma was the start of the day. She would give you a blessing when you would leave and wouldn't lay down until you came home. She greeted everyone with a smile an also would give them a blessing if they wanted one. Barry and Renee Hand, Barbara White can attest to this. Grandma would always find the best in you when others wouldn't see it.

Grandma was one of a kind that educated and gave us everything she could to the best of her ability. These teachings will always be instilled within us like she will.
