On Friday August 20th, 2021, Gloria Lopez Arechiga peacefully entered the arms of God and went home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Awaiting her homecoming were her parents, Ymelda and Jose Lopez, and six sisters, Mary L. Ruiz, Ruby L. Prieto, Jessica L. Trevino, Aurora L. Rocha, Hope L. Martinez and Clara L. Corpus.
Also awaiting were her four brothers, Ralph, Salvadore, Raymond, and Gabriel Lopez, and her son Louis Joe Arechiga.
A Rosary was recited at 6PM at Connally Compton Funeral home on Tuesday August 24th, 2021.
A celebration ceremony was held at the funeral home on Wednesday August 25th. 2021 at 10AM. Burial followed the ceremony in Oakwood Cemetery with Father James Ekeocha officiating.
Gloria was born in Waco, TX on November 28, 1936 where the family moved to Chicago, Ill. shortly after. She lived there until returning to Waco in 1947. She married Robert Arechiga on July 11, 1953 and they were blessed with three children, Louis, Liza and Margaret, whom she lovingly raised and they were the most precious part of her life here on earth, her grandchildren were her pride and joy, she was always there for them. Kristen was like the third daughter, she can't do enough for her grandparents, even now that she is grown and has a family of her own.
She received her education in Chicago and Waco Schools, she also attended McLennan Community College and Baylor University.
In addition to being a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
she worked most of her adult life involved in Humanitarian Work where she worked with Government Employment and Training programs as a Case
Manager and Training Coordinator with the Concentrated Employment
Program, The Texas Employment Commission, and The Heart of Texas Council of Government until she retired.
She will be remembered by the many people she assisted with attaining training and employment, and the help and encouragement she gave them in attaining their needs and goals.
Gloria is survived by her husband Robert D. Arechiga, two daughters, Margaret Hernandez and husband Adam also of Waco, Liza Hernandez and husband Tom of San Antonio, TX and her daughter in law Juanita Arechiga of Waco, TX.
Six grandsons, Eric, Louis J. Jr., Adan , Aram, Marcos, Esteban and two granddaughters Kristen Grace and Deanna Margaret, four great-grandsons Xavier, Louis J. III, Liam and Howie, and two great granddaughters Olivia and Jeannine.
Three sister-in-law's Margaret Lopez of Aurora, Ill, Gloria Vasquez and Rose Reyes of Waco. Her brother-in-law Frank V. Trevino of San Antonio, TX and a host of nephews and nieces all of whom she loved dearly.
Javier Rivera who was like a son to her and Robert. Margarita Ortega of Waco, TX as well. They were always ready to help them especially in their later years.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be her six grandsons. Eric Lopez, Louis J. Arechiga Jr. Marcos Hernandez, Esteban Hernandez, Adam Hernandez and Aram Hernandez and nephews Ray Garcia, Alfred Garcia, Mark Lopez, Robert Daniel Martinez
